While Mike was on a boat this weekend, I had my own fun in the Hunter Valley! Rented a car with some friends and spent Sunday drinking, eating and lounging in the sun. We visited four wineries: Hungerford Hill, Tower, Tempus Two and Piggs Peake. We ended up spending the most time at Piggs (and the winemaker even stayed late for us..oops), which was a really small, funky, boutique winery. Needless to say, we all came home with a few bottles from there.
Jul 26, 2009 at 11:34 AM Given that I can hit Napa county with a rock from my backyard, I have an admitted bias. That said, we've had some excellent wine from Australia so I imagine your experience was a good one from that standpoint. And, belated happy Lamington's Day!
Jul 29, 2009 at 6:19 AM Fun!! Is there a particular varietal/vintage you'd recommend from any of the wineries you visited? We're restocking the 'cellar' in London and would love a tip!
Aug 1, 2009 at 1:37 AM Unfortunately I don't think Laura remembers enough from her trip to make a recommendation. However, I will say there's a reason they are known for their Shiraz (pronounced Shi-RAZ as in raspberry). They do it really really well. 2005 was an especially good year, and we've liked wines that come from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, or Margaret River.
